Career Opportunities in Artificial Intelligence during the pandemic

Last year in March 2020, I had presented on campus of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, Chennai for their computer science students on Career Opportunities in Artificial Intelligence. This year around, they invited me again for the same topic (!) but for their MCA (Master of Computer Applications) students. Since a year has passed where the job market, the technology industry and the entire world has changed irreversibly due to the ongoing pandemic, I decided to rework the talk in entirety. Today in the online talk I was expecting about 40-50 students, instead I was pleasantly surprised to see over 150 students attending the Zoom call. The topic…

Great experience of postal ballot for the elderly

Want to share the great experience my mom (81-years old) had while casting her vote now at home for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2021. A team of five plus one comprising of a Returning Officer (A high-school headmistress I was informed), an Assistant Officer, a Lady Assistant, a Lady Police Constable, and a photographer (who was filming throughout) came in a vehicle to our house; they were accompanied by our area’s regular electoral staff. Throughout their stay of fewer than ten minutes, they were all courteous to a fault. Kudos to them and a big thanks for their service in upholding India’s democracy. They brought with them, the…

Got my first dose of COVID-19 vaccination

Yesterday morning I got vaccinated with the first dose of COVAXIN which has been developed and made in India. After a few hours, I got an SMS from Co-Win App, going there I downloaded the vaccinated certificate with a QR code seamlessly. I felt overwhelmed with a lot of emotions: It is unbelievable to think that mankind was able to make a vaccine(s) for a brand-new virus and get it in the arms of people around the world in less than a year. Kudos to all the scientists, healthcare workers and world leaders in making it possible. I am feeling relieved to see the light at the end of the…

My mother got vaccinated with the first dose of Oxford-SII vaccine

[21st April 2021: The registration & Enquiry telephone number of the vaccination centre at the ESI Hospital K.K.Nagar, Chennai is 044-2489 2548. ] After intensive campaigning for ten days, providing safety data from immediate family (and friends) recipients to the inter-family regulatory panel comprising her siblings, I managed to convince my 80-year-old mother to get vaccinated yesterday. On the suggestion of the panel-head (my uncle) I took her to the (Central) Government ESI Hospital, K.K.Nagar, Chennai. The COVISHIELD vaccine (we would’ve taken COVAXIN if offered, but we didn’t ask) was provided for free. The process was super easy (just carry AADHAAR card), the staff & nurses were friendly & sensitive…

    Chennai is too cold!

Seeing the sun shining now in Chennai makes me happy. The last few days with the cyclone Nivar making landfall on the 25th, the night temperatures were becoming too cold for us, Chennai’ites to tolerate. For records, the night temperature was only 21-degree celsius, but that will be peak winter for us in Chennai! At this rate of cold, I was expecting Saravana Stores (the Walmart of Tamil Nadu, India) to have a மார்கழி (December) sale of Sweaters!
