I saw the film Kaashmora (காஷ்மோரா) starring Karthi in double roles only now, thanks to Amazon Prime Video. Kaashmora (played by Karthi) is a self-proclaimed ghost-hunter, who along with his family cheats people by claiming to possess spiritual powers. The film starts with Kaashmora curing a bungalow of the evil spirits that has haunted the place; it turns out to a trick, similarly was Kaashmora’s appearance on TV claiming to bring spirits on stage. Kaashmora performs his trickery so well that people get fooled and he becomes very famous and wealthy. This fame leads him to become the “guru” to…

Only today I watched Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige (2006), as it was conveniently available in Amazon Prime Video to watch. The movie is about rivalry between two talented magicians of the late 19th century in London, that has been narrated brilliantly by Christopher Nolan. The film starts with a magician Robert Angier getting killed by drowning in a water tank under stage while his arch-rival Alfred Borden watches. Borden gets charged with wilful murder and is waiting for being hanged, he is offered a deal by Lord Caldlow’s agent – Lord Caldlow will take care of Borden’s daughter in exchange…

I saw this film “Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017)” in Amazon Prime Video today. Starring Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt it’s a typical Bollywood Rom-Com. Badri (Varun Dhawan) is a care free son of a rich family in Jhansi, UP who is afraid to speak up to his father, a money lender & businessman. Vaidehi (Alia Bhatt) is the young daughter from a middle-class family from Kota, Rajasthan; Vaidehi has big aspirations for her career to become an air hostess. After seeing her in a friend’s wedding Badri falls in love with Vaidehi who brushes him away. Later she agrees to marry…

Released more than three decades ago, Police Academy (1984) was a comedy riot and a super hit movie series of the era. I happened to rewatch the movie today when Amazon Prime Video suggested I do so. The film has no real plot as such or twists, it’s nothing more than a collection of comic incidents. This makes it a relief from many other films that try too hard to make you laugh. The story is about what happens in the Police Academy of a US city when it’s mayor decides to allow anyone to enrol and get trained to…

I am a fan of British TV Series Black Mirror, a kind of Science Fiction that highlights the unintended bad consequences of futuristic technologies. While Season 1 and Season 2 were primarily about technologies that are at least a few decades away, Season 3 which starts off a bit dull with first few episodes ends on terrifying possibilities shown in the last two episodes. Episode 5 “Men Against Fire” shows the unimaginable power that may be available for Governments of future which are intended on mass genocides, tools that will make holocaust look tame. Episode 6 “Hated in the Nation”…
