The best pillow that I found

From teenage days, I have been using big and thick pillows. From what I saw in films I tried two pillows (one over the other) and lying on them. Thanks to my Yoga practise, so far I have not hurt my neck. About two years back, a psychotherapist who I was visiting for a problem in my foot, casually suggested me to use only one pillow and it should not be thick. After trying a few in shops, I bought Portico Memory Foam Pillow with a gel layer on top to keep your head cool (we all need this). Earlier I had tried the contoured cervical pillows, after the first…

How I reduced my Satellite TV (DTH) spends?

From spending ₹8300 per annum with Tata Sky for 1 TV, I have reduced my DTH / CableTV spend to ₹3100-3300 per annum. I had written this post first on 29th December 2018, but with TRAI introducing unbundling of channels, I had to update my packages with Tata Sky and this post too.  Update information  – 3rd April 2019 The package I had selected in December, ₹199 Tamil HD plan, had been retired by Tata Sky. I had to individually select the channels I want, which I prefer, as I can get rid of the SD channels when the HD equivalents of them are available. In this arrangement, there is…

How to tidy up the wires connected to your Television

As readers of this blog know I have quite a few electronics gadgets. As soon as you connect more than one gadget to your TV, with the miles of wires running everywhere, the whole area starts to resemble a mini powerhouse. It is the same in my son’s room with the XBOX and DTH Set-top boxes connected to the TV there. Recently I saw this item called “Tidy Up Wire Bin” that is basically a plastic box with a lid and two slots on either side for you to feed in and out as many wires as you. Costing about ₹600 it was the best gadget purchase in recent times.…

My own river pebbles walking surface

For weeks my mother was complaining about the little patch of ground in our backyard – she wanted to have it cemented so that she is free of its maintenance, the constant sweeping, planting some seeds and the disappointment. I urged her to consider alternatives to cementing which will be devastating for the water level in the well we have next to it. The final option she got convinced of was the idea to spread river sand and lay stones on top of it, to make a walking surface. Does walking plain foot on these polished stones help? I don’t know, but my orthopaedic doctor recommends it for my flat…

    Biodegradable garbage bags

The black colour “garbage” plastic bags have become ubiquitous in all houses & offices. It is true, that its use is bad for the environment – plastic bags take anywhere between 20 to 1000 years to decay and they also prevent the organic materials like food waste inside them from getting recycled – but there is no denying that these bags are super convenient and a must, to keep our places clean and prevent infections. Every time I see these black bags I feel guilty and think for next few minutes on alternatives, paper or cloth bags won’t work as they don’t retain water. Last week, it suddenly dawned on…
