Look what the wind blew in! A picture of my first gaming rig from the early 90s. It’s not much to look at, but it sure brings back memories. I remember spending hours playing Doom and Wolfenstein on that thing, and my friends would come over all the time to play and to study (!).

Generation Alpha will probably have no idea what most of the stuff in this picture is. They’ll see the tall tower computer and think it’s a server. They’ll see the tiny CRT monitor and think it’s a TV. They’ll see the cordless phone and wonder why there are no apps in the display. And they’ll see the dot matrix printer and think it’s a relic from the Stone Age. And they can’t even imagine how slow the dial-up internet was and the modem which is not seen in this picture or came a few years later to this table.

The thing I miss from this picture is the mudpot for cool drinking water. Sitting next to the table it kept us cool during the hot Madras summers, which is when we played the most. And of course, I can’t forget the pink flower curtains that my sister made me hang up. I was so embarrassed by them at the time, but now I kind of love them. They’re a reminder of a simpler time!
