Last year, I sold my DSLR and purchased a Google Pixel 2 to serve as my phone and my camera – I am loving it, except for the few scenarios where I miss the zoom available in a proper camera.

One of the new features Google introduced this year (2018) in their camera app is the Night Sight mode. It has been an awesome experience using it.

Compare the two photos below taken in the same place, same lighting to appreciate the huge improvement this new mode (Night Sight) brings to low light photos.

The default camera mode – without the Night Sight
Night Sight ON – See the clarity and more light on the horizon

In simple terms, it works by a combination of long exposure and HDR+ with antishake compensation and Google’s Algorithmic magic. Verge has an article explaining the technique in detail.
