I was recently called “VinGet” at the Domino’s outlet in the Aerohub Mall at Chennai Airport. This is not the first time my name, Venkat, has been misspelt or mispronounced. In my school days, my friends called me “Biscoth” Rangan, which I didn’t enjoy. Starbucks outlets around the world are notorious for misspelling my name, but not in Chennai. A few years ago, a Starbucks in Thailand called me “Rinkut,” which rhymes with the Malaysian currency, the ringgit.

Do you have any similar experiences with your name being misspelt?
