It is going to be two years that Starbucks came to Chennai, after the initial fascination waned I had visited just once or twice. Today while waiting for a friend before a movie in Phoenix Mall I went to Starbucks and I was pleasantly surprised to find “Filter” Coffee in the menu.
Filter Coffee is a South Indian speciality aka Degree Coffee it is made by mixing boiling milk with the decoction obtained by brewing finely ground coffee powder in a traditional Indian filter. The highlight of this drink is how forceful the mix is made in the cup set it is served on, called Dabarah and Tumbler which are made out of stainless steel or copper with the liquid mixture poured between the two at arms length. Few times of pouring between the cups and you get a nice froth in top of the coffee which adds to it’s special taste and aroma.
The Filter Coffee I got from Starbucks costed Rs.200, tasted authentic but was lukewarm which was disappointing.
