Last few days Pongal, the harvest festival is celebrated across Tamil Nadu. Today it is Maatu Pongal where the cows which are sacred for Hindus are revered, decorated and celebrated. It’s also the day in which varieties of rice are cooked and offered to crows, this is done to seek blessings from the Sun God for all the brothers and sons by the ladies in the family – it’s called Kannupidi (கண்ணுப்பிடி).
In recent years commercial organizations have joined the bandwagon of celebrations, for example Sathyam Cinemas had a booth (seen at the top of this post) where you can play games and even get your future told by palm reading.
