Apple’s Vision Pro headsets, released earlier this year, may not have been the blockbuster hit the company hoped for, but there’s something undeniably bold about their venture into the AR/VR space. While others have stumbled, Apple continues to dream big. Beyond the technology itself, what truly sets Apple apart from giants like Meta, Google, and Microsoft is their unwavering commitment to content creation for new platforms. From the introduction of Music for iPad two decades ago to the exclusive shows and movies on Apple TV+, Apple’s dedication to creators is truly commendable.
In this spirit, Apple has ventured into new territory with the Vision Pro by producing its first scripted immersive short film, “The Submerged.” The trailer, now available on YouTube, promises to revolutionize storytelling by placing you inside the scene rather than merely observing it. While I’m still searching for a compelling reason for the Vision Pro to become a mainstream consumer device, I see its potential in niche markets like filmmaking, much like the Microsoft Hololens 2 found its place in industrial settings.
Here’s hoping for a more affordable version (under $500) in the coming years. It would be exciting to give it a try, and it might just be the perfect companion to my Oculus Quest 2, which has been gathering dust in my closet since 2020.
