Jungle Cruise (2021) is a modern-day take of the films from the Indiana Jones series. It is about a young female scientist from Britain going on an expedition to the jungles of the Amazon in search of a tree whose petals possess the power to miraculously cure all illnesses. The film feels like a two-hour ride inside one of the Disney theme parks. With no surprises, it still delivers exactly what you expect and was fun. The film is available on Disney+Hotstar and gets our ‘Raw’ rating – families with children may like more than I did.

The lead actors: Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt and Jack Whitehall (of the popular Netflix show Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father) have done their roles well. Though suffering from a predictable story, Director Jaume Collet-Serra has succeeded in making a film that had plenty of silly twists and a few dull moments but manages to keep you engaged.

The opening scene of 18th-century science society and its museum in London was spectacular and the action sequence by Emily Blunt was well choreographed. For one of the most expensive films ever made, Jungle Cruise at a budget of $200 million should’ve been a lot better, the entire movie appears to have been shot in studios and made with computer graphics – I was disappointed there were no visuals of actual Amazon forests.
