Today marks the end in South India of the nine days of Navarathri (Nine Days) festivals, its called Dasara in other parts of India. During Navarathri the dolls and idols of Gods and Goddesses are kept neatly decorated in what is called in Tamil as Golu.
Given below are the new in the display we had in our home for this year:
Araiyar sevai (அரையர் சேவை)
We had a set of Ariayar Sevai displays where we included Acharayans too.
Araiyar sevai (அரையர் சேவை) is about singing and enactment of the hymns of the Divya Prabandham. The legend traces the origin of the araiyar sevai to Nathamuni, a 10th-century Vaishnavite teacher, who according to tradition compiled the Divya Prabandham.
அரையர் சேவை இன்று ஸ்ரீரங்கம், ஸ்ரீவில்லிப்புத்தூர், ஆழ்வார்திருநகரி ஆகிய மூன்று திவ்வியதேசங்களில் மட்டுமே நடைபெறுகிறது. அரையர் சேவை கொண்டாட்டம், பாசுரங்களை இசையுடன் பாடுதல், பாசுரங்களை அபிநயம் செய்தல், பாசுரங்களின் வியாக்கியானம், கொண்டாட்டம் ஐந்து பகுதிகளாக அமைகிறது. அரையர் சேவைக்கு, கோயிலிலிருந்து வந்து அரையர்களை அழைத்துச் செல்வது மரபு. அரையர்களின் பாடல்களைக் கேட்டு பெருமாள் தன்னுடைய பரிவட்டத்தையும் குல்லாவையும் கொடுத்ததால், இன்றும் அரையர்கள் சேவிக்கும் போது அவர்களுக்குப் பெருமாளின் பரிவட்டம் கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. – By Mr Desikan
