With news coming in every day of all major industries in India slowing down from their historic levels of growth in the last few years, everyone in business (including me) is losing our sleep over the state of our businesses and the economy in general. Real-Estate, Cement, Auto, IT, Retail, Travel – all have slowed down in the recent months. No Amount of Liquidity infused by Government/RBI has been able to make banks lend (or) companies to borrow and expand. With this background, I thought the record monies (spent by owners and sponsors) spent on last year’s IPL will come…

It has been more than 2 decades since I have been to a Stadium to watch a cricket match live, the last time was during my School Days that too only once and I remember it vaguely. So yesterday when I went to MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk, Chennai) with my son to see the match it was pure fun. I didn’t want to go through the parking hassles so I left my car in a relatives house in Royappetah and went to the stadium in an Autorickshaw – a wise decision that helped us to reach to our seats by…

I was part of history yesterday (at least let me feel it that way), watching among millions through TV, of course, the first ever Twenty 20 match played by India. This was the 10th International Twenty 20 match. Having watched a cricket match after few years, I feel the 20:20 format has great potential and in all likelihood become mainstream cricket just the way One-Day did for Test matches. The four hours (half-a-day) is very convenient for the audience to enjoy a good cricket match and sight-seeing all within a day. In yesterday’s match (India vs Pakistan) it was good cricket…

I don’t understand what is the big fuss the media is making this to be. Cricket is a game and in any game winning and losing are common. They are sounding as if, Bangladesh Cricket team is playing the game for the first time and Indian team has come from heaven. Yesterday the Bangladesh team was better than India and they should be appreciated. If at all anything has to be done, the Indian Team should take this as a caution for their over-confidence coming from their Sponsors and Media. If present Indian Team members spend more time in practising…

Cricket World Cup 2007 has finally begun today. A two-month marathon of some of the finest teams and games of cricket will be played in the Caribean Islands. Though “1” billion Indians love the sport and watch it occasionally, the noise level about the game in the recent few weeks have been deafening. The amount of money, advertisers are pouring to the sponsorship is really huge – unheard of in India & Asia before. All the radios, websites, mobile phones carry nothing but about “upcoming” World Cup. I am doing this post while watching the first match between West Indies…
