Paris Cafe (2026), starring Guru Somasundaram and Anumol, has a strong core idea: a husband and wife separating over a fundamental ideological disagreement. Unfortunately, the film fails to deliver. Mangoidiots rates it Rotten.
The film starts in the USA, where a young woman lands her dream job and then calls her boyfriend to meet up. Suddenly, the story shifts to India. The girl’s parents are living separately. The story should have focused on whether the girl and her lover could resolve their differences. Instead, it moves into honour killing and justice. The shift in focus wasn’t the problem. Abandoning the lead couple’s story was.
Unfortunately, the screenplay never brings the lead couple’s love, arguments or emotions to life. Instead, it spends time on everything else. Amateurish writing, mostly green-screen cinematography and a lack of chemistry between the characters make the whole film feel like a school play.
I was looking forward to seeing talented actors like Guru Somasundaram and Anumol, but they hardly share a few frames together. The young couple, played by Archana and Vijay Vishwa, were good, but they also didn’t get enough screen time.
