Looking to escape Chennai’s scorching heat? Check! Planning a short vacation in Kodaikanal? Check! Expecting a pleasant climate? Check! Need a sweater? Nah, not really. But hey, let me give you a heads-up about the traffic mayhem that awaits you there. Seriously, it’s not worth the trouble if you’re only staying for a day or two.

Picture this: Last weekend (13th May 2023), we set off from Trichy at the crack of dawn (6:30 AM). Little did we know that we were about to enter a time warp. It took us a whopping eight hours to reach the serene town of Kodai. And believe me, that wasn’t even the worst part. The last ten kilometers, oh boy, they were pure torture. We moved at a snail’s pace, with traffic inching forward only a few measly meters every agonizing thirty minutes. I swear, I could have grown a beard by the time we reached our destination. I mean, seriously, folks! It’s supposed to be a vacation, not an endurance test!

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, we arrived in Kodai. But guess what? Driving anywhere was out of the question. Nope, not a chance. The entire town had transformed into a colossal parking lot, especially around the bus stand and the lake. So, we had no option but to rely on our trusty feet. Now, walking isn’t all that bad, you might say. And sure, you’re right. But unfortunately, pavements were present only in a few areas.

So, if you’re considering a break from Chennai’s scorching heat and planning a relaxing getaway to Kodaikanal, think twice. Unless you enjoy spending your precious vacation time trapped in traffic and honing your skills as a stealthy pedestrian, it might be wise to reconsider. Believe me, there are better ways to beat the heat without sacrificing your sanity. Stay cool, my dear friends!
