I just observed that the Apple iPhone XR is the same price in India as in the USA. The reason may be that this model alone is Assembled in India under the “Make in India” initiative. It cost Rs.43,000 (USD 650) in the USA, adding the state sales taxes will make it the same as in India (Rs.50,000).

Compare this with iPhone 11 and all other higher models including iPhone 11 Pro or iMac computers which are more than 25% costlier in India, due to the import duties. It cost Rs.53,000 (USD 750) in the USA, while it is Rs.70,000 in India.

P.S.:
1) I am sceptical about high taxes and duties by any country. There seems to be a plus in cases like this. Will wait and watch.
2) I am NOT shopping for a new phone. Even when I do, it is unlikely I will go for an iPhone. Though I own an iPad Pro, I hate the UX of iOS/iPadOS.
