“NO”. No means no!
Pink (2016) has been in my watchlist for a long time. With the release of Tamil version Nerkonda Paarvai, I had to watch the original and I did it this week.
I liked the film, the casting of Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari & Andrea Tariang was perfect. Though the film was about an important topic, of the safety and respect of women’s individual rights and preference, it stands out for not being preachy or judgemental.
Director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and the team hit hard on stereotypes that are common with Indians – on women who drink, on our fellow citizens from the North East, on mental illness, or on landlords being unreasonable. The Director has to be appreciated for keeping the screenplay tight and not wandering unnecessarily on explaining things, like for on how disingenuous politicians and the corrupt police work together in cooking up false cases.
