I was in Udaipur, Rajasthan for last 3 days on invitation by a friend who is running a global software firm there. He had hosted me in his house and took me to delicious Rajasthani Vegetarian cuisine for every meal – thoroughly enjoyed the delicacies.
The first day the lunch was in a local dhaba restaurant in the city. We had delicious Masala Papad and a Lachha Paratha with generous amount of ghee on top along with Paneer Butter Masala.
Dinner was home cooked at my host’s house – Rotis, Bindhi fry, Rice & Ker Sangri (a desert vegetable made as a pickle) which instantly became my favourite.
Second day lunch was in a famous restaurant there – Navidya restaurant in Amantra at Panchwati area. I was treated to a yummy complete Rajasthani vegetarian thali (meal). It consisted of
- Dal
- Rajasthani Kadi
- Besan gatta
- Spicy garlic chutney
- Kachumar salad
- Aloo Subji
- Tandoori Roti
- Missi Roti
- Bajre Roti
- Pulao
- Ker Sangri
- Dal Bati Churma
- Chaas (Buttermilk)
- Pickles

For the second day we had dinner in the Sunset Terrace Restaurant in Udaipur Palace grounds on the bank of Lake pichola. Dining here is an experience of a life time; with the view of Aravali Hills, Taj Lake Palace, Jag Mandir and the glowing palace behind you, it’s lovely. Since we had a heavy lunch I settled for a simple dinner of a salad, noodles and Strawberry Chilli juice.
For the last day we had a Gujarati vegetarian lunch at Gordhan Thal, City Station Road, Udaipur which had the following:
- Kesar Pista Basundi
- Malpua
- Dhokla
- Chana Dal Patties
- Paneer Patiyala
- Gawar Ki Sabzi
- Dal Bati
- Lasan Ki Chatni
- Fulka Roti with Ghee
- Poori
- Dal
- Rajasthani Kadi
- Rice
- Chaas
- Pickles
Overall, a tasty tour of Udaipur.
