I was looking for a simple smartphone that I can get for my father in law. He was using a Nokia feature phone (Nokia C1-00) and liked it’s voice clarity, simplicity and long battery life. I looked for similar features in a smartphone and has the Apps he cares about which were Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube. I considered going for iPhone as he was using an iPad while at home, but gave up that option as he wasn’t sure he will be comfortable with a touch screen in phone. That meant going for a new phone that didn’t cost much, say less than Rs.10,000 (USD 150).

After considering many brands I went with the suggestion made by my son, for a Micromax Canvas Juice 3 for Rs.7900 from Amazon India. The phone runs Android 5.1, has 720 x 1280 pixels display, 2GB RAM, 8MP back camera, Gorilla 3 glass and support for 4G. Two key features that sealed it for Juice 3 were its huge battery (4000mAh) and 3 times louder sound with 96dB speakers which meant he can hear the calls well. The 5 inches screen size was also perfect for his liking. Now two weeks after the purchase, he is happy with the phone and is able to get more than 3 days battery life after a single charge, uncommon in today’s smartphone world.
