I have been reading Shoba Narayan’s writings through her weekly column in Mint’s Lounge newspaper for few years now. So when I learnt about her new book “Return to India” I got it from Flipkart.
The book is a memoir about Shoba’s quest to go to USA for higher studies, getting there, wanting to be accepted there & then to get Americanised, get an American Passport. After getting through all this, she wishes to get back to India. The book is a good light read material with her easy to read language. Shoba captures the dilemma facing Indians living abroad, which tears them emotionally between their adopted country and India. It is a work that doesn’t glamourize one side or depose on the other, it is what we have experienced through our family members and friends living abroad.
