I was looking for a senior citizen mobile phone that I can gift to my parents and in-laws who can use it conveniently. The phones we normally have in market have pretty small keypads which are difficult to hold and the letters are tiny. The screen for senior citizens need to be extra bright, above all the phone should be simple and have minimum of the fancy features we crave for. This last point rules out most of the smartphones. I know Android smartphone have few skins and themes from third party apps that are supposed to be Senior Citizen friendly, but touch itself is a problem for my In-Laws or my parents in phones.
After much search, I narrowed down on iBall Aasaan Phone, it is not cutting edge but has really large keys and the screen is super bright orange with black text. It also has a SOS switch at the back, which when toggled can be setup to SMS and then call five pre-saved numbers. Purchased the phone for Rs.2599 from Flipkart. My mother-in-law has been using it for last few weeks and she loves the phone.
Update 10/September/2013: The phone suddenly was dropping lot of calls and developing call hearing problems. I searched and found the following authorized service centre, gave it for service. After few days they returned the fixed phone and its working fine again.
