When it got released Inception (2010) was a much talked about film by Christopher Nolan. Dom Cobb (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) a professional thief using a secret defence technology does assignments where he gets people to sleep and then joining them in their sleep by infiltrating their subconscious. It’s not about how it’s done but about what happens if you do it. In the world shown in the film, this technique is used to steal secrets from a victims mind. Two years back was when I first heard of “The Martian”, the Sci-Fi novel by Andy Weir. I think it was in one of the Podcast shows in Twit by Leo Laporte, I have been wanting to read the book from then, but today I watched the movie adaptation of it. It’s interesting on how this novel became popular. No book house wanted to publish “The Martian”, Andy Weir self published it on his website one chapter at a time for free, then as a Kindle eBook for 99 cents which became an instant Sci-Fi title, then corporations came rushing to buy rights for Audio book, then a…

I saw after two years of it’s release Director Selvaraghavan’s 2013 film Irandaam Ulagam (இரண்டாம் உலகம்). When I first heard the title I thought it will be based on Mike Cahill’s Another Earth (2011), but Irandaam Ulagam turned out to be different. If you were to search for inspiration you need to go to Sci-Fi works like Star Trek. Irandaam Ulagam is about two love stories of two couples who live in world’s (literally) apart. The film is all out about Arya & Anushka, both have performed one of the demanding characters of their career. Though Arya comes out the same in both the planets,…

The movie opens in the lab of Arya, who is a scientist in the year 2065 who has invented a Time Machine, to demonstrate it’s safety he sends his dog in the machine to 2015 and to automatically return to 2065 in few seconds after taking some pictures. Right in that first scene, the debut director &  writer Ravikumar R impresses us with the amount of detail in the graphics showing the Time Machine and the future. This attention to detail continues throughout the film and that’s what makes Indru Netru Naalai (இன்று நாளை நேற்று) a delight to watch. The opening scene for one of the lead character…
