Revolver Rita is one of those rare films that has only a female protagonist, and here Keerthy Suresh takes the lead in a light comedy. Director J K Chandru deserves credit for keeping the screenplay moving at a good pace. He does not try to build any forced heroism or hype. The film slips because the moment it starts, we can see exactly how the whole thing will wrap up. Mangoidiots gives it a Raw rating.
Rita lives with her two sisters and their mother, Chellamma, played by Radhika Sarathkumar. Rita works in a small fast-food outlet. Just before the birthday of her sister’s child, a dangerous don walks into their lives by chance. What follows is a chain of violence and revenge from all directions. The story is about how this family deals with the mess and somehow survives.
Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Sarathkumar are the best parts of the film. Both deliver neat performances. John Vijay and Redin Kingsley also fit their roles well. The rest are gangsters and rowdies who only scheme and kill each other.
Most scenes are predictable from the moment they begin, and this takes away the tension in the screenplay. The tone keeps reminding us of films like Kolamavu Kokila (2018). If the director had moved away from that style and tried a fresh approach, Revolver Rita would have stood out better.
