Money heist style, who-stole-it dramas are always fun to watch, and Mask tries to join that club. This 2025 film with Kavin and Andrea Jeremiah moves in many directions instead of staying tight. I liked the two-hour runtime, sharp dialogues, steady acting by Kavin, and a satisfying climax. Mangoidiots wanted to rate it higher, but Raw feels right. It is fine for a relaxed watch.
The film follows Velu, played by Kavin, an ethical private investigator who chases money at any cost. Bhomi is a social worker who rescues abused girls. Andrea Jeremiah co-produced the film and plays Bhomi. Her character needed more weight. What we have is adequate, but it does not leave a mark. Among the supporting cast, Charlie gets a small but effective role. It was a pleasure to see him do this. Redin Kingsley appears without his usual loud shtick, and that helps. G V Prakash Kumar keeps the film moving with a serviceable background score.
The plot is simple to state. Bhomi asks Velu to recover ₹440 crores that went missing. The money is meant to sway the Tamil Nadu elections. Velu risks everything to get it back. As he digs deeper, he finds traps and dark secrets. How he navigates those hazards makes up the film.
The screenplay opens briskly, then loses steam in the middle. It recovers in the final stretch and gives a neat payoff. The middle portion tests patience. Director Vikarnan Ashok shows promise. Many comic moments work well. At the same time, he avoids giving his protagonist real moral shades, as if reluctant to show faults. That keeps us from fully rooting for Velu. The motive for his choices comes too late in the film.
Mask aims for a compact who-stole-it thriller. Uneven pacing and thin character work dilute its impact. The strong climax, good background score, and a confident lead performance by Kavin keep it watchable. Watch it for the ride, not for depth.
