DC (2026), Lokesh Kanagaraj shines in action

Director Arun Matheswaran has delivered exactly the film you would expect after watching the official trailer of DC. Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi have given memorable performances in this non-stop action film. Mangoidiots gives it a Ripe.

The film follows a ruthless gang that carries out a heist involving a shipment of police weapons. The story moves between the gang and the special team investigating the case. Along the way, we see the gang’s stopovers and the people they encounter.

The screenplay’s fast pace is the highlight of the film. There is hardly any time to catch your breath or feel bored. The director has also ensured that there are enough emotions, friendship, camaraderie and a bit of romance to keep us occupied. I particularly liked the unexpressed romance between the lead pair. The understated treatment adds a sense of reality to what is otherwise a highly stylised action film. I also liked the decision to avoid lengthy backstories for the characters. This adds a little suspense to the proceedings.

I am not a fan of Anirudh Ravichander‘s music, as I often find his sound indistinguishable from one film to another. But in this film, the background score, particularly “Raga of Revenge”, adds a different dimension to the narration and stays with you. The excellent editing also helps keep the film to around 142 minutes. Anything longer and I feel the tension could have been lost.

Lokesh Kanagaraj, in his full-fledged acting debut, has performed the action sequences brilliantly. The director has smartly avoided giving him scenes that would require him to express complex emotions or romance. This works in the film’s favour. After Parimala and Co, Sanjana Krishnamoorthy gets a good but brief role here. She makes the most of it. In the second half, Wamiqa Gabbi dominates the screen with her confidence and timing. She was particularly good. Srikrishna Dayal brings the police officer Bhojaraj to life. He plays a man who is ruthless in his pursuit of punishing the guilty.

Overall, DC delivers what its trailer promised: a fast-paced action film with very little time to pause. The action is relentless, but the film also finds space for friendship, emotion and a restrained romance. For me, that balance makes it an enjoyable watch. Mangoidiots gives DC a Ripe.
