Gangers (2025) is a regular Sundar C film complemented by Vadivelu‘s signature comedy. There is the usual heroine, Catherine Tresa, loving the hero, played by Sundar C. To give an excuse for making it into a film, there is a familiar plot involving villains, revenge, and a mega heist. If you like Sundar C’s earlier films, you can watch this one too. Mangoidiots gives a Raw for Vadivelu.
The first thing to notice about Gangers is the successful comeback of Vadivelu. Though in places it reminds us of his earlier works, his effortless carrying of the moments makes them enjoyable. Like many Tamil movie fans, I too wish this marks the beginning of another successful innings for Vaigai Puyal.
The story is about two brothers who control a town like their private fiefdom. A bold school teacher, played by Catherine Tresa, raises her voice when a girl student goes missing. She is joined by a newly appointed Physical Training (PT) teacher. Vadivelu, who also plays the PT teacher, tries various antics to impress the school teacher, but ironically, his efforts end up favouring her attention towards Sundar C. Together with the support of the three others, the teachers take on the powerful brothers. This forms the plot of the first half, but the narration becomes dull soon after it starts. In the second half, the story shifts to a money heist and the pace improves. The climax races towards the end — but, please do not expect much logic.
Apart from a familiar bar dance sequence and a few dialogue-driven scenes, Catherine Tresa gets little scope to perform. Sundar C does what is expected of him — showing minimal emotions but handling the numerous action sequences impressively. Vani Bhojan, despite a short appearance and a song, leaves a memorable impression. Bagavathi Perumal, Munishkanth, and others are given good screen time and have made the most of it. On the villains’ side, Hareesh Peradi, Mime Gopi, and Aruldoss have done their part of terrorising the town effectively. The music and songs by C. Sathya serve the film’s needs without standing out.
Overall, Gangers is a lukewarm version of what you might expect after watching the trailer, but for fans of Vadivelu, it offers enough moments to smile and hope for more from him in the coming years.
