Automobile websites are stuck in time
I was exploring options for a lightweight scooter for my personal usage to go to near-by places. I visited Hero MotoCorp, Suzuki, Honda websites to see details. It’s been years I went online looking for information on automobiles. I assumed the websites would’ve come off age now. What I found was disappointing.
The 3 (India) websites I went to were nothing more than brochures put online. All of them had price, specification & features – that’s it. No gallery of pictures. No 360″ views. Not even videos of their products which I am sure they are airing as advertisements in TVs and YouTube. For additional information, they all were showing PDF version of their paper brochures.
Does this show that online presence is not important for offline manufacturing brands?. Are Digital Pundits exaggerating in their assessment that Digital is a make or break for all industries? What do you think?

They can do a lot more like online product configuration / customization. Some auto majors were doing in bits and pieces. I wrote a report on this in 2012. You may like to go through it.
