Udupi Temple

Last week, we were holidaying in Bekal. One of the days, we travelled to Udupi town for darshan – by road, it takes about two-and-half hours.

Udupi Sri Krishna temple is a famous shrine dedicated to Lord Krishna. The mutt accompanying the temple serves delicious lunch every day for thousands of visiting devotees.

According to mythology, Lord Chandra (Moon God) prayed to Lord Shiva here to get rid of a curse by Daksha Prajapati. Lord Shiva was pleased with moon’s prayers and blessed him in the form of Lingam which you can see in Chandramoulishwara Temple. Since the Moon God prayed here the place has got its name Udupi (udu means stars and pa apparently god).
