Sriperumbudur town is about 40Kms from Chennai on the Chennai-Bangalore Highway. The town is an ancient one and has a prominent Hindu Vaishanavaite temple. Unfortunately in recent years it got known around the world as the place of assassination of Former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991.  I did my under graduation in Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Pennalur which is few kilometres before Sriperumbudur.

Today I went to Sriperumbudur to offer my prayers to the famous Sri Adikesava Perumal Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu) here. Sripreumbudur-Ramanujur-Temple-1

The town has the distinction of being the birthplace (Avathara Sthala) of the celebrated Vaishnavite Acharya who established the Vishishtadvaida philosophy Sri Ramaujar. Sri Ramanujar’s vigraha was installed in this temple during the saint’s lifetime and is therefore called ‘Thamugantha Thirumani’. It is believed by devotees that offering prayers to Sri Ramanujar here and performing abhisheka to him will cure oneself of all ailments.

Below two pictures show the Temple Gopuram after the lights are turned on, look at the shining Thiruman Srichurnam in the second picture below.
