There are films that turn to be a disappointment half-way through, and, then there are films like Sangathamizhan (சங்கத்தமிழன்) which don’t even try to be interesting. I am surprised how a talented actor like Vijay Sethupathi agreed to an unoriginal slapdash script like this!

Murugan (Vijay Sethupathi) is an aspiring actor living in a housing board flat with his father and sisters. He falls in love with Raashi Khanna, who as you would’ve guessed is the daughter of a ruthless, super-rich businessman (Villain 1) who wants to build a polluting copper factor near a village in Tamil Nadu. In his double action as Sangathamizhan, Vijay Sethupathi, his love Thenmozhi (Nivetha Pethuraj) and his father played by Nassar together take to oppose the local MLA (Villain 2) for people’s good. What happens between the two heroes and the two villains is supposed to be the story.

The songs by Vivek-Mervin were upbeat and rhythmic. Every major character including the hero (in both his roles), the comedian Soori, Villain 1 and Villan 2 all keep showing off their Ray-Ban sunglasses. Maybe they are a sponsor?.

Director Vijay Chandar‘s previous film Sketch (2018) too was a let-down.
