Hot Frosty (2024), A Scarf’s Magical Christmas

Hot Frosty (2024) surprised me. Even for a Christmas rom-com, the idea of a snowman coming to life sounds ridiculous on paper. Yet, it turned out to be a pleasant watch, mostly due to the charming performances of Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan. For its cosy festive vibes, Mangoidiots gives the film a Raw rating. You can catch it on Netflix.

The story revolves around Kathy, a widowed diner owner in the quaint town of Hope Springs, New York. Grieving the loss of her husband to cancer, she finds herself drawn into an unexpected adventure when she wraps her new red scarf around a snowman sculpted for a town contest. In a magical twist, the snowman comes to life and gets named Jack. What follows is a heartwarming tale of Jack melting Kathy’s sadness and warming the hearts of the town folk. Of course, there’s some mild drama with the local sheriff sniffing around, adding just a pinch of conflict.

Director Jerry Ciccoritti deserves credit for turning a flimsy premise into a breezy, watchable movie. The story moves along at a steady pace, keeping us entertained without overdoing the sentimentality.
