No Hard Feelings, starring Jennifer Lawrence, is a raunchy comedy that occasionally makes you cringe, yet manages to stand out with its familiar theme of a woman romantically involved with a younger man. Despite its well-crafted execution, Mangoidiots gives it a Raw rating, as the characters lack the depth needed to leave a lasting impact.

The film is anchored by Jennifer Lawrence‘s brilliant performance. She skillfully portrays the transition from initial awkwardness in needing to act attracted to the 19-year-old boy, to later developing a genuine friendship. A standout scene involves a naked Lawrence fending off robbers, which is handled with finesse, avoiding any descent into vulgarity. This careful approach throughout the film resonates with the audience and had the same attention been given to character development and plot strengthening, the film could have been much better.

The party scenes, though predictable, effectively depict how today’s American teenagers are more engrossed in the digital world than in physical relationships. A particularly hilarious yet reckless moment is when Percy, the young man, jumps onto Maddie’s car, and she drives for miles with him clinging on. Andrew Barth Feldman, as the young man, provides solid support to Jennifer Lawrence, complementing her performance well.

In summary, “No Hard Feelings” is a film that entertains with its humour and Lawrence‘s performance, but falls short in character depth and plot development.

Footnote: The movie brought to mind a similar storyline from the Rajinikanth classic “Moondru Mugam” (1982), where Radhika’s character attempts to persuade the America-returned Rajini to abandon his vow of celibacy.
