I have always had a soft spot for comedy movies, and when they feature the likes of Jerry Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy, I am all in. The recently released Netflix film “Unfrosted,” directed by Jerry Seinfeld, was a treat for me. The film is a humorous, imaginary take on the cereal wars of the 1960s between Kellogg’s and Post. Though it hints at satire, the film mainly aims for pure, unadulterated humour. Given that it’s been a while since we had a full-fledged comedy, Mangoidiots rates this one as Ripe.

There were several standout scenes, such as the corporate espionage attempt involving a full-sized video camera attached to a floor mop. Another memorable moment was when the Post CEO’s assistant suggested creating a cereal void of sugar and gluten, containing real fruit. The film also takes jabs at the Cold War politics of the era, including the Cuban Missile Crisis. The subplot involving the milk cartel might seem like a distraction, but it serves as a logical inclusion to introduce some ‘bad guys’ into the plot. The young boy and girl who gain wisdom from eating out of dumpsters, while experienced scientists remain clueless, was a cliché. However, it fits well within the film’s context and added to the overall humour.

In conclusion, “Unfrosted” is a delightful comedy that offers a hearty laugh. With Jerry Seinfeld‘s sharp direction and the comedic talents onscreen, the film is a good watch for fans of the genre. Just keep your expectations in check, as it offers little substance beyond its comedic experience.
