Allu Arjun starring Pushpa: The Rise (2021) had received a lot of coverage in the last few months, the two songs featuring Rashmika Mandanna and Samantha Ruth were the talk of social media for weeks. Reading the one-liner that it was about Red-Sandalwood smuggling I thought it will be yet another mass hero, masala film which shows the ruthless hero to be a saint even though everything he does is illegal – it was exactly that, but surprisingly the predictable screenplay was highly engaging and I liked it. Award-worthy performance by Allu Arjun. The film available on Amazon Prime Video gets my Ripe rating.

Even though he comes only at the very end of the film, Fahadh Faasil leaves his mark – with every film of his, the Malayalam star leaves me more impressed with his sincere depiction of the roles he dons. I am sure, if and when the sequel (Part 2) comes Fahadh will be having a pivotal role. Yes, Rashmika Mandanna is shown glamorous in most of the frames, and she looks gorgeous, she has also brought to life her character well – the girl from Geetha Govindham (2018) has come a long way in acting.  The lyrics for the song “Oo Solriya Oo Oo Solriya” starring Samantha, by writer Viveka were excellent, especially the last line exposing the hypocrisy of morality speaking men of power.

Pushpa is not flower, he is fire. And fire is not new. But every fire created, carries inside it the same potency as the first.
