Varane Avashyamund (2020)
Varane Avashyamundu is a feel-good Malayalam film. Available on Netflix India.
A single mother (Shobana) and her daughter (Kalyani Priyadarshan) are living in an apartment complex in Chennai. In the same complex, lives a retired Army Major (Suresh Gopi) who is having angry management issues, and, then comes a new tenant – a young man (Dulquer Salmaan), his brother and aunty. How there lives change is the rest of the story.
The entire film happens in Chennai and I loved seeing the visuals of my city. I find it interesting that Malayalam films that happen in Tamil Nadu or involving Tamilians have a lot of dialogues in Tamil, the vice-versa (Tamil films happening in Kerala) doesn’t normally happen.
The casting was perfect with veteran dancer Shobana stealing the spotlight, similarly even-though she gets only a little screen time Urvashi impresses us. There is a limited role for Dulquer Salmaan, but he has done it well. As a young lady looking for a suitable bridegroom Kalyani Priyadarshan who appeared in Tamil in the Sivakarthikeyan’s Hero (2019) film, convinces us as a warm and loving person. The supporting characters, the residents of the Apartment complex all have done their roles nicely.
Though this is a family drama and about romance, there is a general thread of comedy running through. The film goes a bit slow and there are no major twists, other than that, it was an enjoyable film.
