Hero (2019) starring Sivakarthikeyan and Kalyani Priyadarshan was on expected lines – a disillusioned young man, taking on the corrupt ‘education’ system and exposing its underbelly – unfortunately, there was nothing new being told, or told briskly. The second-half turned out to be dull and made us look forward to the end.
Director P. S. Mithran seems confused – whether to show Sivakarthikeyan’s as a super-hero, or to be only a prodigy of Gentleman (1993) Kicha, or as an ordinary man turned to be revolting against the system. From the start, the hero keeps losing to the villain, gets rescued by Arjun who appears in a character that’s sequel to his character in Gentleman, and then suddenly doing radical things overnight.
