While returning from the USA on board the flight I saw this film – Yes Man (2008). It is yet another Jim Carrey film with his eccentric behaviour onscreen and the resulting comedy. Carl (Jim Carrey) feels like a loser, a bank loan officer who is in his late 30s, divorced, goes out rarely, disengages from his only friend; basically is feeling hopeless of a better future. In this background he attends a self-improvement program “Yes!”, there from the guru on stage he learns to never say “NO” to anything that life throws at him. From that moment, what comes his way he starts saying “Yes”; anything which is overdone causes trouble and that is what was rest of the film.
Zooey Deschanel of the TV series New Girl fame plays the role of Allison, girlfriend to Carl; Allison’s character is diagonally opposite to Carl, she is spontaneous, an outdoor girl who drives a scooter at breakneck speed. In one of the scenes, Carl & Allison on their way back to Los Angeles gets interrogated by the FBI in the Airport on suspicion of Carl showing weird behaviour of learning flying lessons, studying Korean and so on – a humorous take on the paranoia gripping US authorities after the tragic 9/11 incident.
