Wind River (2017) is a crime thriller that transports you to the wintry mountains of Wyoming and keeps you frozen there in anticipation. I thought Alaska and the regions near arctic circle are the only inhabited places which are brutally cold, seeing the visuals of Wyoming I can’t even imagine how worse those places will be. Director Taylor Sheridan has done a brilliant job with the location selection and the castings – especially the “burly” Tribal Police Chief Ben Shoyo (played by Graham Greene).
The film starts with a young girl running barefoot on the sub-zero snow in the wilderness of Wind River Indian Reservation in Wyoming, USA. Her rape and death is the case to be solved by a junior FBI agent Jane Banner (played by Elizabeth Olsen) who is shocked with the lawlessness of the land and she is there without any backup. Luckily Jane is supported by a local resident, a wildlife agent and hunter Cory Lambert (played by Jeremy Renner) who has a personal motivation in helping her to solve the case. This forms the basis of a strong bond between them to work as a team against their unknown enemy.
If you watched last year’s award-winning film – Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017), then watching Wind River (2017) will provide you with some closure!
