After an unintended gap of few months (the last movie I attended was in April 2013) of attending International Film Weeks in Chennai, I came to a film today. It was “The GrandMaster” , a Chinese martial arts film based on the life of the Martial Arts grandmaster Ip Man, the man who trained Bruce Lee. The story happens in Foshan (China) of 1930s and 1940s of Hong Kong. It is about contests between masters of various schools of Martial arts that were prevailing in North & South of China in that era.

The bringing to screen of those days China to life was done through clever use of lighting by the Cinematographer. I don’t have much interest in the martial arts subgenre, but I enjoyed the film & the fighting scenes were amazing.
