With Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017), Director H.Vinoth of Sathuranga Vettai (2014) fame has given an interesting police thriller, congratulations to him. Karthi has got a much-needed break with this film – he has given what in my opinion is his career-best performance – he appears as “Theeran”, a talented Police Officer who with his dedicated team solve a decade old highway decoity. Music Director Ghibran steals the show with his brilliant background score which maintains the thrill throughout.

The story is based on a true incident where Tamil Nadu police in 2005, cracked the case in cooperation with UP police. British India have inspired director too – with their Criminal Tribes Act of 1871 they declared many communities as ‘criminals’.

The first half of the film keeps you gripped – it is not often Kollywood produces screenplay of this quality. It is in the second half, the film starts to drag, you already know the identity of the villain and the plot, but the film keeps going, to satisfy Karthi‘s star value – who to his credit has executed the action sequences well. For a thriller film, the romance sequences in the first half were only plain fluff. There is the inclusion of an unmistakable cliche – half-dressed dancers performing in front of the villain and his gang. It’s just me, I am running out of patience for films that run over 2 hours – this one was 155 minutes!

Rakul Preet Singh has a playful character just like her last in Spyder, she fits the role nicely. Bose Venkat as the reporting police officer ‘Sathya’ has used well the given opportunity.
