Shri Jagannath Temple, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad
Last week (2 January 2019) while I was in Hyderabad, and, a relative took me to the Shri Jagannath Temple in Banjara Hills. Modelled on the Puri Jagannath Temple, this is a smaller one, yet beautiful and well-maintained. We visited on a late evening and it was peaceful and divine. There are smaller shrines dedicated to Lakshmi, along with Shiva, Ganesh, Hanuman and Navagrahas. If you are in the area, don’t miss to visit the temple and pray to Lord Jagannath.

Sri Hanumar Jayanthi
Every year, two temples in my neighbourhood celebrate the annual Sri Hanuman Jayanthi grandly. The two temples are: 1) Sri Anjaneyar Koil, 53rd Street, Ashok Nagar, Chennai run by Sri Anjaneyer Baktha Sabha, 2) Sri Tiripurasundari Temple in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. ஸ்ரீ லக்ஷ்மீநாராயண வரதராஜப் பெருமாள் கோயில், பொய்கைப்பாக்கம், விழுப்புரம் 605 103. இது சென்னை-திருச்சி தேசிய நெடுஞ்சாலையில் விக்கிரவாண்டி சுங்கசாவடியில் இருந்து பண்ருட்டி போகும் வழியில் சுமார் பத்து கிலோமீட்டர் (விழுப்புரத்திலிருந்து ஏழு கிலோமீட்டர்) தொலைவில் இருக்கிறது. Kapaleeshwarar Temple – Madras Week Heritage Walk
Sahapedia had organized a heritage walk as part of Madras Week, to the famous Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Mylapore. Conducted by a friendly host Mr S Jayakumar, who is a Carnatic musician trained at Kalakshetra and an independent researcher on the cultural history of South India. The walk started early in the morning around 7 AM from the East Gopuram entrance to the temple. In many of the Hindu Temples, the presiding deity faces the East side, here the Lord Kapaleeshwarar, faces West Direction and his consort Goddess Karpagambal faces the South. Sri Adhimoola Perumal Temple, Vadapalani
Vadapalani Murugan Temple is well-known to most devotees in Chennai, but unaware to many, there is an old Vaishnavaite (Vishnu) Temple next to it. Sri Adhimoola Perumal Temple also called Sri Gajendra Varadaraja Perumal Koil is situated on the road (Palani Andavar Koil St, Vadapalani) leading to the Murugan Temple when you are coming from Arcot Road. Entrance to the temple is ducked in between the many flower shops on the road, you need to look for it or ask the people around. Vadapalani Murugan Temple
Vadapalani Andavar Temple is one of the well-known temples in Chennai – dedicated to God Muruga (younger son of Lord Siva & Lord Parvathi). The temple is easily few minutes of walk from the Vadapalani junction, there are numerous bus and metro train connections to the place. Hundreds of devotees throng the temple during weekends and the crowd swells to tens of thousands during festival days. The God presiding here is known to readily grant the wishes of his devotees. Vaikuntha Ekadashi 2017
Hindu’s especially Vaishnavaites celebrate every year Vaikunda Ekadashi (ஸ்ரீ வைகுண்ட ஏகாதசி). The day is considered auspicious, and devotees take up fasting on this day as a prayer to Lord Vishnu. Vaishnavism believes that Sorga Vasal (சொர்க வாசல்) meaning ‘the doorway to Lord’s Inner Sanctum’ is opened on this day to devotees. To mark this all Vishnu temples around the world have a specially marked (or temporarily erected) gateway as a symbol of the one in Heaven. This festival is celebrated grandly at Sri Tirupati and Sri Rangam temples. I went to have darshan in two temples near-by to my house.
