The Midnight Sky (2020) is a science fiction film that has everything behind it – star cast with George Clooney as the Director & the Protoganist, a global catastrophe, and space exploration to a habitable celestial body. I liked the film, but still, it earned only a ‘Raw’ from me as the film failed to connect with you emotionally. The film is available on Netflix. Augustine Lofthouse (George Clooney) is a scientist of repute in a polar science centre, following an unknown planetwide geographical disaster everyone is being evacuated, while a sick Augustine stays behind. Did he survive in his…

Wonder Woman (2017) was a visual treat, the Amazon island abode on Themyscira was breathtaking coupled with Gal Gadot’s high-paced stunts, told with the backdrop of World War I. Compared to that the sequel Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) is a simpler film told with the backdrop of the geopolitics and the oil economy of the 1980s. I liked WW84, but it was not in the league of the first film. Chris Pine has done his supporting role well, I enjoyed his part. The antagonists in WW84 were tamer and not explored in detail to make me feel rage against them.…

Soul (2020) is a perfect way to get your mind away from the craziness of the year. The film is about a middle-aged Joe Gardner, who has been struggling for years to break into the world of Jazz, which he is passionate about. How he discovers himself while helping a girl in the out-of-the-body world forms the story. The film is available on Disney+ Hotstar. I liked the fact the protagonist was shown as an African-American, a rarity in animation films and a first for Pixar (as per Wikipedia). Though the film reminded me of earlier Pixar works like Inside…

A Call to Spy (2019) is yet another wartime film about the heroic deeds of unassuming people during World War II. It chronicles the story of two civilians recruited by a new secret agency of the British to be sent as spies to German-occupied France. What makes the film different is that the protagonists are women and they don’t do action sequences, yet the film was highly engaging. It is available in Amazon Prime Video. Stana Katic who comes as Vera Atkins is the secretary to the head of the new secret service and she is tasked with recruiting women…

Superintelligence (2020) is a romantic comedy that is wrapped around a sci-fi premise. I liked the film due to Melissa McCarthy who like from her acting in Mike & Molly (2010) TV show, and then in The Boss (2016) and Spy (2015). At the same time, it may not work for everyone as there was nothing new and the movie was a ‘genie’ type fantasy film than a sci-fi. Carol Peters (Melissa McCarthy) was a hard-working corporate executive, who is now jobless and looking for a job that can combine work with her interest in helping the needy. In one…
