Petta (2019) starring Rajinikanth and Directed by Karthik Subbaraj will be a celebration for all. Enjoy the festival season with this film.

When the film was announced it had a dozen-plus star cast and I was a bit worried about how the Director will balance them all. To his credit Director has done a great job and almost all the actors fit their roles to a Tee. The songs by Anirudh Ravichander has already topped the charts for months, added to them were the well-done background score which maintained the beat of the film throughout.

Rajini with his signature style plays the role of an older hostel warden whose entry into the college campus itself sets the tone of the first half. Simran comes as his love interest, after many years her former enchanting looks are seen again. Trisha and M. Sasikumar both have got a kind of guest role in the flashback, nothing more.

We have five villains – Bobby Simha, Aadukalam Naren in the first half, and, Director J. Mahendran, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vijay Sethupathi in the second half, but it is Vijay Sethupathi who has got the most screentime and was the one to dazzle us. Though Munishkanth Ramdoss has had an unimportant role in the story, as an actor he leaves his mark felt.

The second half felt about 15-20 minutes longer than it should be, without affecting the story the parts in Uttar Pradesh could’ve been easily shortened.

What impressed me the most in Petta was Rajini‘s style and his greyish (Light and Dark) character definition. Go for it!
