U Turn (2018) is a Tamil remake of a popular Kannada film of the same name. Directed by Pawan Kumar and starring Samantha Akkineni as Rachana, this is a ghost thriller that benefits from an engaging screenplay. Rachana is a young reporter with the Times of India, working discreetly on a story about two-wheeler drivers who are taking an illegal U-Turn on top of a flyover in Velachery. Shockingly, everyone on her list keeps dying. The story is about how she and Nayak, a Police Officer (played by Aadhi Pinisetty) solves the mystery.
If you set aside your disbelief on supernatural elements and the lack of logic in this genre, U-Turn is an enjoyable film. A fine performance by Samantha, displaying a mix of innocence, fear and bravery. The charming Bhumika Chawla, has done the role of a scary ghost satisfactorily. For most parts, the background score by Poorna Chandra Tejaswi ensures the momentum is not lost.
The title roll, in the beginning, has an inverted video of a ride over a flyover, that was too long and was disorienting to watch. For an otherwise engaging film, the climax was a bit ordinary. Anyways, a good thriller to watch for this week.
