It is going to be two years since Starbucks came to Chennai, after the initial fascination waned I visited just once or twice. Today, while waiting for a friend before a movie in Phoenix Mall, I went to Starbucks and was pleasantly surprised to find “Filter” Coffee on the menu. Filter Coffee is a South Indian speciality aka Degree Coffee it is made by mixing boiling milk with the decoction obtained by brewing finely ground coffee powder in a traditional Indian filter. The highlight of this drink is how forceful the shake is made, and the cup set it is served on, called the Dabarah and Tumbler which are made out of stainless steel or brass. The liquid mixture is poured between the two at arm’s length. A few times pour between the cups and you get a nice froth on top of the coffee which adds to its special taste and aroma.

The filter coffee I got from Starbucks cost INR 200, and tasted authentic but was lukewarm which was disappointing.
