KO (2011) directed by K.V.Anand and starring Actor Jiiva was a huge success. To take advantage of the franchise, KO2 as a standalone sequel was created.

KO2 stars Bobby Simha as Kumaran, a young reporter who kidnaps the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Yogeshwaran (played by Prakash Raj). While the Government and Police try to rescue the CM, Kumaran plays his hand well and exposes a double murder that was buried by the powerful. What sounds like a thriller in paper, comes out disappointing on screen due to weak screenplay.

Highlight of the film are the two songs, Unnai Matrinal (tribute to Late Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam) and Kannama, both of which have become hits for few weeks now.

Though in the first half they both fail to impress us, Bala Saravanan and Ilavarasu have given a good performance in the second half of the film. None of the roles played by Bobby Simha, Nikki Galrani, Prakash Raj, Ilavarasu or Bala Saravanan are established or introduced properly to audience. Because of this we are unable to relate to any of them or feel for their cause.

Bobby Simha who had given a brilliant performance in Jigarthanda (2014) unfortunately turns out to be a bad fit for the role. He delivers a flat performance throughout the film, showing no variations for romance or sentimental scenes. Throughout the film Prakash Raj’s character is shown siting in a chair and talking few punch lines, a good actor is wasted. It’s become routine to see John Vijay play an indifferent Police character.

A film you can skip watching.
