This is one restaurant I enjoy coming every single time and every time I leave happier no matter how I felt when I entered. It’s Annalakshmi, the vegetarian restaurant located in Rukmani Lakshmipathy Road (Marshalls Road), Behind Air India Office and Next To Rani Meyyammai Hall, Egmore. It’s run by a trust founded by Swami Shantanand Saraswathi in Coimbatore, the restaurant has branches across India, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. First time I visited Annalakshmi Chennai was nearly 2 decades ago when it located in Mount Road opposite to LIC building, I was surprised to learn that almost all the workers here (kitchen staff and servers included) are unpaid volunteers who do this as a service and as their contribution to earn money for the trust which is spent on welfare of the poor and needy. I was glad the same tradition continues even now, the only paid staff are the security and Tandori Naan makers from Bihar. You will instantly feel the quality and nature of service here is different and one done out of love, which makes you enjoy your food and your time here.

Today I came here for a lunch, as I tasted the first item and before I could can ask for a second helping they served me the next item, which turned out to be as good or better than the first and this continued throughout the meal. At the end I couldn’t eat another morsel, my hunger was satisfied with no room left. The meal started with rice fries, vadai and drum stick soup. The main course was poori, chapati, 3 gravy side dishes, potato fry, raitha, coconut rice, kothamalli (coriander leaves) rice, upma urundai & vatha kuzambu, bisibelabath (sambar rice), curd rice with manathakkali keerai seeds & neem flower. The desert was coconut payasam, gulab jamun and ice cream. Overall a sumptuous meal.

Being Navarathri (Dussehra) season the restaurant had a beautiful Golu display in their lobby.
