Tamil Movies and monotonous characters

I was watching in TV today a clip from a Tamil movie where the lead couple are college students with the story revolving around their college life. In almost all Tamil movies that have college stories, the main couple will be featured as the leaders of their respective groups in the story. The female lead character (Heroine) will be the most beautiful girl in the college and all the boys will be seen going behind her. Similarly the male lead character (Hero) will always come first in studies, sports, gym and music.

I was wondering why they don’t make movies where the main characters are featured as members of a group and not as group leaders. I am sure you can tell an interesting realistic story with the main characters just blending in a group and still the story revolving around their life. Do you feel the same, please post your comments.

Chocolate Krishna

Chocolate Krishna

This Music season due to market conditions at work I couldn’t spare time to attend any of the carnatic concerts, even though I had tickets for Nungambakkam Cultural Academy who have programs in the same road (Habibullah Road) as my office. On the new year’s day I took a break and went with my wife and kid to Crazy Mohan’s new drama – Chocolate Krishna. The drama was an usual Crazy Mohan entertainment, you can certainly have a good laugh before you come out. Since this one had few magic tricks performed on stage by Crazy Mohan himself my son enjoyed it thoroughly. This was the first time I risked taking him to a live performance, but since he could understand to some extend the story (however limited it was) he cooperated and remained silent throughout the play.

If you like comedy plays and get a chance to go for this one, go for it.

Next to Google search or sometimes more often than that, a website I turn to most often is Wikipedia. It has helped in resolving many arguments that I have had with my wife on who a signer for a song was, which movie Rajini acted in the 1980s and in which state is Darjeeling and so on. A good example was after we watched Mani Ratnam’s “Guru” we were curious to find out how closely the movie portrayed the original story of Sri Dhirubhai Ambani, turning to Wikipedia told us more on Sri Ambani and his life than what we could have got even from Reliance website. Especially after I bought an Apple iPhone, browsing Wikipedia for an information has become a near addiction.

For last month or so I have been seeing the “Donate to Wikipedia” banner in the site and today I decided to the good deed as the first transaction in the new year. I went ahead and donated $30. Rather than putting up with Advertisements, any day I will prefer to pay to get the content that I want – but I know I am part of a minority who feel this way. How about you, do you feel the same?. 60 Sweets in a box

sri krishna sweets - 60 varities in a boxWish you all my readers, a very happy and prosperous new year 2009.

I thought it will be good to start the new year with a post on sweets, so here it is. I was visiting my in-laws house yesterday and saw this gigantic sweet box from Sri Krishna Sweets lying on the dining table. When I opened it I was greeted by “60″ varieties of mouth-watering sweets, everything from Chocolate Chakra, Dry Fruit Halwa to Rava Laddu and Kaju Beda. All of them neatly labeled on the inside top for information. A great gifting idea.
